Parking around the School

The weather is changing and it would appear that more parents are using cars to bring their children to and from school.  The school has received a number of complaints / comments from members of the community about car parking outside the school on Bolton Lane and in the centre of the village.   Headteacher, Mr Cross, has strongly urged parents to park away from the school and walk their children the rest of the way.

Bolton-le-Sands Library

Many of you will know that a final decison has been made to close Bolton-le-Sands Library. For many years the library has offered great support to our school and the wider community with many thousands of books being enjoyed by everyone. Glenys and previous librarians have been great holding various classes and keeping our community spirit alive.  It is such a great shame that a library that is so popular and that has been expensively refurbished so recently is closing - let's hope that everyone will still have access to library services via other means in the future.

Retro Disco

Tickets for the Retro Disco are on sale from the school office, and from FOBLES Committee members, priced at £5.00 per person and include a free drink on arrival. The disco will be held in the Community Centre on Saturday 22 October, beginning at 7.30 and ending at 11.30pm. Please note: a cash bar will be provided so you will not be permitted to bring your own drinks.
They are hoping to create some special decorations for the event and would really welcome any donations of old CDs or records (7" or 12") that you no longer need. If you can help, please send the CDs/records to the school office for the attention of the FOBLES. Thanks.

Consumer Alerts

It appears there have been several reports of doorstep callers in the South Ribble area.  A business offering cavity wall insulation and is targeting areas with a high density of older residents.  The salesman refuses to leave company details when asked.
Again a fish seller is targeting the elderly, charging excessively for their produce.
Please do not sign up to any offers or do business with doorstep callers.  Take time to think about what work you need, obtain more than one quote, and choose traders recommended by friends and family or from LCC's Safe Trader list if you do want any work carrying out.  The Safetrader scheme can help you find a trader in your area, contact 0303 333 1111 or go to www.safetrader.org.uk

Lancashire residents are reporting receiving telesales calls selling mobility aids. The calls seem to be targeting vulnerable and older consumers. Worryingly the callers are arranging appointments for sales reps to visit when the potentially vulnerable consumers are alone.  The telephone callers are very insistent and will try to establish when the consumer will be home alone and time the sales reps visit accordingly. Presumably this tactic is used to give the sales person the best chance of a sale.
One Lancashire resident in her 90's was targeted and told the caller that she did not want a visit but a salesman was sent anyway.
Please think carefully before you agree to a visit from a telesales calls, use local, known services instead.
