What it means to be a councillor
Lancaster City Council is holding a special council meeting on Wednesday 24th September at 6.30pm in Morecambe Town Hall to address what it means to be a councillor, the likely time commitment, and how people can set about becoming a candidate. There will be a mixture of presentations, workshops and the chance to speak to experienced councillors and employees of the council in an informal setting.
Playground Update
Sorry for the Delay!
We are working hard to get the playground ready. Unfortunately we've had a few issues with the site and equipment but things are now on track and the playground will be open, ready for action, on Saturday 23rd August from 11.00 am when the official opening ceremony will take place.

Doorstep Incidents
Incidents have been reported of elderly residents being targeted for driveway work, particularly in the Leyland area. Rogue roofers (two men and an accompanying woman, in a white van) have
been working in the Simonstone, Padiham area. The woman makes friends with householders and asks for a glass of water as a way to get into the house. Residents are warned to keep an eye on their neighbours, report suspicions to the police or trading standards, and not to deal with anyone on the doorstep.
If you need help finding a reputable trader why not check the Safe Trader Scheme.

Important information from Lancashire County Council Trading Standards Service.
A report has been received of a Lancaster resident receiving an unsolicited email from someone purporting to be Maria Seto from the Sales Department, providing a draft Bill of Lading (which is basically a receipt of freight services) & a packing list and stating that she would email a copy of the commercial invoice tomorrow. The consumer had not bought any goods and was not expecting the delivery of any. Trading Standards advice is to never give personal information or to pay over money in response to unsolicited emails.
If you receive an email which you suspect is bogus, speak to family or friends or the Citizens Advice consumer service (telephone 08454 04 05 06) and seek advice.

The 9 day ride is being covered by The Bay radio station on a daily basis. Mr Chris Spurr and Mr Jim Bousfield would be very grateful to anyone who is able to sponsor them. This can be done via The Bay's website.
