The dangers of Morecambe Bay Sands
Visitors to these shores should be vigilant when it comes to the tides. The rapid and fast-rising incoming tides, unpredictable quicksands and shifting channels already make the sands some of the most dangerous in the UK. Today, it was reported to the parish council that a visitor ignored the warnings of passers by and stayed on the beach too long resulting in nearly drowning when being cut off by the tide. Three fire engines, the air ambulance, paramedic and ambulance, coastguard, lifeboat and hovercraft were called to the scene and saved the woman and her dog but next time she might not be so lucky. So the parish council would like to impress upon all those who visit our shores, check the tide times, watch out for quicksand, don't venture onto the sands in vehicles.
