Telephone Scams

Unfortunately, the PPI scam seems to be circulating again. One consumer reported getting a call from a man who claimed he was from the Office of Fair Trading and said the consumer was owed £5000 for mis-sold PPI connected to a mortgage. The caller demanded a £250 Ukash voucher to be paid on delivery of the cheque.  If you believe you have been mis-sold PPI please contact the Financial Ombudsmen Service on 0800 023 4567 or visit www.financial-ombudsman.org.uk . In another incident a consumer said they were cold called by a trader offering personal loans. The consumer accepted the offer and applied over the phone. They were subsequently asked for £200 and £140 by Ukash voucher to release the loan.

Trading Standards Advice is never deal with cold callers. Ukash vouchers should always be treated as cash and consumers should remember to be just as wary about who they give them too. For further advice about Ukash vouchers visit www.ukash.com.
