Free Bike Marking

Neighbourhood policing have been fortunate to obtain funds from Lancashire County Council to purchase bike marking kits from a national company, BikeRegister.com.  They are offering to security mark bicycles belonging to members of the public free of charge.  This is obviously open to you and members of your family.  Just come along to Bolton-le-Sands Fire Station on Saturday February 15 between 11am and 1.00pm.

The BikeRegister.com scheme is basically where a bicycle is given an ID number, the owner’s details are registered and a log book created for the bicycle similar to a V5 log book for a car.  This log book is then e-mailed to the owner.  There are a limited number of kits but the aim is to reach as many people as possible to get their bicycles ID'd.  This will hopefully prevent crime as they are clearly marked to any bicycle thief and it will also help the police identify owners of bicycles as and when they are recovered.
